Solo Farming Vaettirs (A/Me or A/E) With The Updated Shadow Form
Build #1:
- Arcane Echo
- Shadow Form
- Way of Perfection
- Ether Nightmare
- Cry of Pain
- Radiation Field
- Channeling
- Elemental Resistance
Template Code: OwVTMY/8ZaJQnhAqzzG0t0EAJAA
Build #2:
- Glyph of Swiftness
- Shadow Form
- Frigid Armor
- Glyph of Lesser Energy
- Burning Speed
- Armor of Earth
- Way of Perfection
- Heart of Shadow
Template Code: OwZUkSVus/OSfdW7EZczKFEQEIA
Equipment:
Blessed Imperial Mask of Superior Shadow Arts
Blessed Imperial Guise of Major Vigor
Blessed Imperial Gloves of Attunement
Blessed Seitung Leggings of Attunement
Blessed Seitung Shoes of Attunement
Fiery Runic Blade of Enchanting
Enchantments last 20% Longer
Inscription: "I have the power!"
Energy +5
Gloom Shield of Devotion
Armor: 16
Health +45 (while Enchanted)
Inscription: "Like a Rolling Stone"
Armor +10 (vs. Earth damage)
Armor:
+ 70 (base)
+ 10 (insignia)
+ 8 (shield)
+ 10 (inscription)
+ 40 (stance) or +46 (enchantment)
1st: Damage Reduction (Armor): ~75%
2nd: Damage Reduction (Linear): -10
Net Result: 0 damage
The first concept probably works for other areas if you substitute your inscription and stance. It probably also works for physicals with Physical Resistance, but you should take the +10 vs. physical, +10 vs. typed insignias. Be careful as physical damage skills often have hefty armor-ignoring bonuses. You may need a Barrier-Bonder or some kind of greater direct or physical damage mitigation (Stoneflesh Aura, Shroud of Distress, Unseen Fury, Armor of Sanctity, etc. or Feigned Neutrality for a short-term heal).
The Elemental Mantra Stances work after the linear damage reduction, so Mantra of Earth plus another sin enchantment doesn't work by itself, although it may work using a Barrier Bonder.
The new version of Shadow Form makes Vaettirs and other monsters hold aggro for much longer than before. They usually won't scatter until they're near death, so corner blocking isn't entirely required (but helps).
The new Shadow Form is in some ways much stronger than the old version. I was thinking of using it with a Barrier Bonder to go and try some quests I haven't tried for a while.

You can run from Longeye's Ledge to Jaga Moraine without an IMS and without having to stop for patrols.

After some testing, you can take Shroud of Distress in place of Way of Perfection but ultimately it doesn't help for this run -- if you have the +10 vs. earth shield. The +40 armor from Elemental Resistance or Armor of Earth is what prevents you from dying. If you don't have a +10 vs. earth shield (or any shield), you must have Shroud of Distress because your health will eventually reach 50%, and if you don't have it, you will die.
Energy for Shroud gets extremely tight on the A/E bar. You can probably drop Frigid Armor (Shroud will heal you back up) or Heart of Shadow (if you're confident you won't get body-blocked) for Fire Attunement.
Edit: definitely Frigid Armor for Fire Attunement.

What kind of times are you looking at?
At this point I would think the ele run is quicker now without the movement penalty. I haven't tried out the sin bars yet but I think the ele is faster.
Currently I use
Glyph of swiftness
OF
Stoneflesh
Mantra of Earth
Sliver
Crystal Wave
EBSOH
8th slot
Still playing around with rad field and arcane echo for a second sliver or wave.
Anyone use something different for the ele

I have to second the use of Teinai's Crystals, it speeds the run up considerably. However, I'm very unhappy with Sliver Armor, even at 16 Earth magic, the huge elemental armor of the Vaettir reduces each sliver to 7 per hit. No doubt it's better with EBSoH, but I prefer Storm Djinn's Haste for the run, and to make rounding the mobs up faster. I think I'm going to end up swapping Sliver Armor out for Arcane Echo again.
Oh, and the first run I did (which was the first one I've done in months) ended up taking less than five minutes, which was the "age" on those screenshots, so I think that with practice, the Obsidian Flesh version will squeak out a win in the speed race against Shadow Form. Which is nice, for once.

Just tried both build, good job with the builds.
Personally i like the ame better because there isnt slow down in the build also you have to be really careful not to get stuck, RF can be switched out for a teleport, I didnt see too big of a difference.
Again good job.

How, pray tell, are you bringing two Elites?
I'm still not sold on Ether Nightmare/Cry of Pain for an Elementalist. It makes sense for Perma to slip the degen in under the damage cap, but Obsidian Flesh doesn't have that limitation. If it's pure Degen you want, Radiation Field does it better with only one skill slot, and if it's damage, just Arcane Echo Crystal Wave/Teinai's Crystals.

If it's those loot-scaled glacial stones you're after, sliver armor is a vastly better compromise. Spending minutes rounding everything up and having everything die within a second of each other is the last thing you want to do for loot scaled goods.

I don't think anyone farms Vaettir for Glacial Stones; more for those tasty event items and random weapon mods. Neither of which are affected by loot scaling, so quick killing is the way to go.
